The 7-day trial on the data room plans

The 7-day free trial sits only on the Data Rooms, Data Rooms Plus and Data Rooms Premium cards, not on Pro or Business. The Free plan is a plan, not a trial.

Papermark's help center says NDA agreements, a confidentiality form a visitor accepts before the room opens, and the request list, a shared checklist of documents needed, are open during the trial. Neither it nor the pricing page says whether starting the trial asks for a card. The terms allow an automatic charge at the end of a trial when a payment method is on file.

What costs money: data rooms, more team members, more documents

Papermark's pricing page says every plan includes unlimited data rooms, yet its feature table gives unlimited data rooms only to Business and Data Rooms, so treat a data room as a paid feature.

Data Rooms is $179 a month billed monthly or $119 billed annually, a flat plan with 3 team members included. Annual billing is charged up front for the year, per the help center.

More team members need a paid plan: the help center says Free cannot add them, though the card's hover tip lists $12 a month per additional user. Papermark pricing lists each plan's extra-member rate.

Is the open-source code free?

Not for a team, by Papermark's help center: it says the open-source project can be self-hosted for personal, non-commercial use, and that team and company deployments need a self-hosting license. Its license file puts code outside the enterprise folders under AGPLv3, so self-hosting terms differ between its pages; Papermark open source sets out both. The code also needs its own database, storage and email service, so hosting and upkeep cost money.

When a free option elsewhere fits better

A shared Google Drive folder suits a few trusted readers who need no page-by-page data; free data room software compares the free routes. DocSend shows no free plan card, and its FAQ describes a 14-day trial of Advanced Data Rooms with unlimited visitors not available during it. That suits a Dropbox team weighing eSignature.
